Al & Dave in Berkeley, 07.12.2014Here is Don Hom's report from the show at Freight & Salvage last week:
Al & Dave’s show at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley back on Dec. 7 was their last for 2014. Here is the set list with a few notes.
Dave Nach & Mike Lindauer open:
Al enters (with Mike leaving):
House of Clocks
On the Border
Mike returns with Daisy Stewart:
Night Train to Munich
Time Passages (with a “Deck the Halls” intro and outro to provide holiday flavor)
Dave & Mike open second set:
Conservation Law: Love Keeps Going On
Medley: A Small Fruit Song/Clifton in the Rain
(Dave played a few notes from “Freebird” in response to a shout from the audience, allowing Al & Dave to recall the time several years earlier at Harlow’s in Sacramento when Dave played/sang “Sweet Home Alabama” in its entirety.)
Gina in the King’s Road
Katherine of Oregon
Year of the Cat/Day Tripper outro
Shiela Won’t Be Coming Home (with a few back-up singers including, Daisy and Robin Mackey)
A fine show in general made especially memorable by the appearance of Al’s daughter Daisy on “Munich”. She sang backup, played ukulele, and took lead vocal on the second verse of “Munich”. Daisy has a wonderful voice and wants all to know that she has her own band, Bleached Signals, who are soon to release a new CD. As a plug for her, go to the link below for this band’s Facebook page for more details.
Everyone who attended this show appeared to enjoy it and was in good spirits. It’s been five years since Al has played at the F & S in Berkeley and his return marks a reconciliation of sorts between him and the venue. I hope he will consider returning next year.
